Montresor brings the idea of using Luchesi to taste Amontillado, but Fortunato suggests that he is not good enough for the task and regards him as a competitor as well. Montresor seeks to use Fortunato’s liking for wine in a bid to carry out his revenge in a way that curtails the risks of being identified. The story’s narrator, Montresor, opens up his revengeful motive towards Fortunato, his acquaintance, by claiming that he insulted him irreparably (Poe 1200). This paper will analyze the stylistic devices that Poe applies in the short story, “The Cask of Amontillado”. The narrative meets the qualities of a classic short story as theorized by Poe since it can be read in a single sitting. Poe’s work on this piece of literature has been considered as one of the world’s perfect short stories. “The Cask of Amontillado” is a story involving horror due to Montresor’s vengeful motive upon Fortunato. ![]()
