Shala by Milind Bokil5/24/2023 ![]() ![]() His father works in the city as most of the town does, except for Nikam Kaka who works in the municipality.Īt the heart of Mukund Joshi's world is his school, his new love Shirodkar, and his mates who rejoice in names like Surya and Phawdya. (And so are they all extraordinary young men, in a long tradition that stretches back to Holden Caulfield.) He lives with his father, and mother, and extraordinarily sanctimonious elder sister, Ambabai, in a town just outside the great city, from which various intimations of excitement come. I didn't think a fourteen-year-old experiencing the pangs of new love would be able to hold me over nearly 400 pages but Mukund Joshi is an extraordinary young man. ![]() Nicole’s use of weather at that oh-so-difficult-to-write transition where the protagonist must believe the unbelievable is masterfully done. ![]() The story’s key to changing history itself is wondrous.įor writers, there is also plenty of inspiration for how to write fantasy and sci-fi. The narrator imparts aphorisms to live by. I fell in love with character after character. Nicole writes about things that fill her with wonder, “the times where science falls short of explanation and magic has room to sneak in.” And have no doubt, there is plenty of magic and wonder in A Time Traveler’s Theory of Relativity-plenty to go around for young and old readers alike. I first got a peek at this brilliant middle grade novel when Nicole and I were studying for our Masters of Fine Arts, and I am thrilled that you too will be able to read it soon. ![]() ![]() Nicole Valentine joins us today in celebration of A Time Traveler’s Theory of Relativity. ![]()

Foreign Identity by Becca J. Campbell5/24/2023 ![]() ![]() I can’t tell you more about the plot, because I don’t want to ruin the surprise, but it does wander off into a sort of science/fantasy world. But after that, it’s like stepping through the looking glass – or flying over the rainbow, a more apt metaphor, considering the frequent references to Oz throughout the book. When I first started reading this, I was thinking to myself that the basic premise has been done – waking up in a room, no memories, no idea who you are I even played a D&D game like that once. Campbell before, and I was just … blown away! I literally could not stop reading this book until I finished it – to the point where I even had my husband grab my medication for me to take so I wouldn’t have to get up. My Thoughts: Wow! I had no idea what to expect when I read this book, having never read anything by Ms. Just click on the name of your preferred provider and you'll be taken there!īook Info: Genre: Psychological Suspense/Science Fantasy This book is available on Kobo and iTunes. Mariama ba books5/24/2023 ![]() She can’t help but try to make sense of the stirring of mixed emotions on the drive over to confirm the deceased’s identity. The story begins with Ramatoulaye revealing the passing of her estranged husband, Modou. ![]() Here is a short synopsis (slight spoiler warning) accompanied by my initial impressions. A recount of experiences told by Ramatoulaye, a Senegalese woman, in a letter to an old friend living in America. Our literary safari continues with So Long a Letter, originally written in French and translated to English. Her literary craft would become beloved by many and the speaking point for gender studies as she incorporated the rootedness of cultural horizons as well as the prospect of reconciliation arisen from suffrage. Bâ (1929 – 1981) was the inspirational voice of a generation, born from a Muslim Lebou family in the city of Dakar, she would be destined to fuel the fight for the women’s movement in recognition of outstanding issues. This country marks the next destination of our grand literature expedition across the world where we will revel in the literary arts by acclaimed author Mariama Bâ. Included amongst the twenty-nine is the proud republic of Senegal located in western Africa. Très bon! Sharing such aptitude, it is also my assumption that you’re well aware that French is the official/co-official language of twenty-nine countries worldwide. ![]() ![]() Bienvenu! To the trained eye, you’ve already deciphered the romanticized language of French. ![]()

Tower of babel josiah bancroft5/24/2023 ![]() Even though he is a highly organised person, he is woefully unprepared for the tower, or it's colourful inhabitants. Marya really only becomes lost because Tom is too stiff-necked and proper, unable to cope with the embarrassment of underwear shopping with his new, young wife. Tom isn't your everyday fantasy hero, quite the opposite. As the hours turn into days it becomes clear that to have any hope of finding Marya, Tom must ascend the tower. Shortly after alighting the train they lose each other in the busy market that borders the tower entrance. It is a world of geniuses and tyrants, of airships and steam engines, of unusual animals and mysterious machines. Immense as a mountain, the ancient tower holds unnumbered ringdoms, warring and peaceful, stacked one on the other like the layers of a cake. ![]() The story begins when Headmaster Thomas Senlin and his new wife Mayra take the train to the fabled tower of Babel. Since then the series has continued with Arm of the Sphinx and The Hod King, which is released this month. ![]() Originally self published in 2013, the book was picked up by Tor / Orbit when it became clear just how special the novel really is. Senlin Ascends is the ground-breaking debut of Josiah Bancroft and the beginning of the Books of Babel series. ![]()

A house for hermit crab book5/23/2023 ![]() Much to his dismay, just when his dwelling and new family fit him to a T, he finds he's physically outgrown his shell yet again. In time a colorful sea star, some coral, an industrious sea snail, a fortress-protecting sea urchin, and an illuminating lantern fish all join forces with him, making his house a home. When he meets some beautiful, swaying sea anemones, he asks if one of them will come to adorn the outside of his shell. In this soothing, upbeat story, Hermit Crab casts his eyestalks on a newer, bigger shell, but it seems plain and unwelcoming at first. "I've grown too big for this little shell." Much-loved master of cut-paper collage Eric Carle created A House for Hermit Crab to comfort any little ones (okay, and adults, too) who dread change-whether the new shell is a new home, a new school, or a new experience. ![]() ![]() "Time to move," said Hermit Crab one day. ![]() |
